He is described as a black male, around 5ft 5ins tall of medium build. He had black curly hair and was wearing a black puffer jacket and a cap.

A patient at the hospital told the Oxford Mail: "I am appalled that someone could commit such a crime.

"Some members of staff have battled to get in to work today and have gone to extreme lengths to get here.

"There are nurses who are working today who are planning to sleep overnight in an unused bay, so that they can guarantee being able to work tomorrow.

"There are other nurses who have come in early because they live nearby and wanted to cover for their colleagues who are struggling to get here.

"It is just so sad that someone could steal from these dedicated hard working nurses who aren't paid a great deal and who are prepared to give up their own time, to help as much as they can, without even being paid for their additional time."
