AN Oxford MP has urged residents to register for emergency help if they find themselves without power.
Oxford West and Abingdon's Layla Moran is encouraging constituents who may need extra support during a power cut to register for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ (SSEN) free Priority Services Register.
Some people rely on electricity for specialist medical equipment, such as a kidney dialysis machine or ventilator.
SSEN have offered extra help and support to ensure its customers are looked after.
Ms Moran is calling on members of her constituency to contact SSEN if they feel they, or someone they know, may need extra support during the winter months, to register for the free scheme
She said: “We all know how tough winter can be for the most vulnerable. We should always be looking out for our neighbours, friends and family members, especially at this time of year.
“Those dependent on electricity for home medical care, the elderly or very young children need all the support they can get.
“I urge locals who feel like they may need extra help to register for this free scheme that can offer help in the event of a power cut. This time of year, with bad weather likely, I want to make sure residents have support."
