WORK has begun to repair a severely pot-holed road in an Oxford estate.

Windale Avenue, which links Blackbird and Greater Leys, will remain closed today as resurfacing work continues.

Staff from Oxford Direct Services were on site all of yesterday to carry out the fix-up job and the road is expected to reopen tomorrow.

Councillor for the area Linda Smith said she was 'pleased as punch' that the work was going ahead.

Ms Smith and her Labour party colleague Deborah McIlveen, have raised the state of the road on a number of occasions.

She said: "The road closure is a pain but it will be worth it, thick layers will be removed and new asphalt laid."

A diversion is in place for vehicles for the duration of the work and Stagecoach's number 12 bus is unable to serve the stops at The Barn and The Leisure Centre.
