THE Patisserie Valerie cafe at Debenhams in Oxford is to close after the national chain collapsed.

The cake chain went into administration on Tuesday, placing more than 3,000 jobs at risk and a list of branches that are set to be closed first has now been announced.

It includes the Patisserie Valerie concession at the department store in Magdalen Street, among 25 concessions across the country to close. The date has not been announced.

There are also 27 of the chain’s cafes and 19 Druckers stores listed for closure, which will result in 920 job losses.

The remaining 122 outlets will continue to trade while the administrators seek a buyer for the business.

The surviving cafes include Patisserie Valerie in High Street and the Baker & Spice cafe in Woodstock Road.

David Costley-Wood, at KPMG, said: “Since our appointment less than 24 hours ago, we have been pleased with the level of interest we have received in the business, and so remain hopeful of achieving a positive outcome.”

Patisserie Valerie said on Tuesday that discussions with its lenders to extend an agreement on its debts had failed.

Oxford Mail:

Patisserie Holdings, the cake firm’s parent company, has been struggling with the fallout of an accounting fraud since October.

It is understood chairman Luke Johnson has extended an unsecured, interest-free loan to help pay January wages.
