AN ELDERLY woman had be freed from her flipped car after crashing into a tree on a rural road yesterday.

Emergency services were called at 6.44am to Mill Lane, Chalgrove.

Fire crews stabilised the car to stop it rolling into a nearby ditch and found the driver was stuck in the front of the vehicle.

Fire crews and paramedics removed the rear door and back seats of the car to enable the woman to be lifted out and onto a stretcher.

She was then taken to hospital by ambulance. Her condition is not known.

Crews from Slade, Didcot and Wallingford attended the incident.

Station Manager Andy Ford, who also attended and is the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service road safety manager, issued a warning to motorists about the dangers of driving in winter.

He said: “With the winter weather now starting to get colder, roads are slippery with icy conditions in places.

"Following a number of road traffic collisions throughout Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley already this year, I would urge drivers to be extra cautious in the upcoming cold weather, drive according to the conditions and leave extra time for your journey.

"Always be able to stop in the distance you can see, stopping distances could be over four times longer when roads are wet or icy."

A Thames Valley Police collision investigation into the cause is ongoing.
