A CITY councillor has said a meeting to discuss concerns over plans to build 38 flats in Cowley was 'packed' with worried residents.

David Henwood, who arranged the event to address fears over the Between Towns Road application, said: “Residents don’t want to give the impression of being ‘housing nimbies’ but as caring neighbours. Concerned not only for the environment but also the wellbeing of future residents.”

He said many who attended the meeting, which was held on January 10, echoed previous concerns that the area around the car-free development would become a ‘dumping ground' for cars.

He added the council was trying to 'squeeze' more units onto the current site and many residents felt 28 homes would be more 'reasonable'.

The application was submitted by the city council, which owns the land, last month. The development would see a four or five storey block containing 35 flats as well as three houses.

A final decision on the scheme is expected by March 15.
