DRIVERS in Oxford are still opting to buy German cars, despite Brexit, a car buying site has claimed.

Data, revealed by sellers carwow.co.uk, claims this to be the case despite warning from the motor trade about possible price rises in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

It said Volkswagen is still the number one car bought by Oxford drivers.

Date from it's customers showed that the Volkswagen Golf was the most popular car, followed by the Nissan Qashqai, Volkswagen 2016, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Mercedes A-Class.

BMW Mini was not listed in the data, despite figures in 2018 showing Oxford's Mini Plant achieved record worldwide sales.

This included the sale of 371,881 vehicles, up 3.2 per cent from 2016.

Alex Rose, trading and supply operations director at carwow, says: "Europe - in particular Germany - has such a big influence on British drivers.

"Despite the prospect of Brexit, it is clear we believe Europe rules the roads.

"The data we have at carwow is unique in the industry and means not only do we know what people are buying, it’s also what they are searching for every day.

"The Golf is such a long-term favourite of the driving public it was always going to be hard to dislodge it."

The Volkswagen Golf also took top spot in London, Scotland, Wales and Edinburgh.
