OXFORD’S Sudanese community came together at Carfax Tower on Saturday to stand in support of the protests and uprising that has started in Sudan against the government.

Even young children stood with their families to show that they do not support the police brutality that is taking place against protesters in their home country of Sudan.

The number of protesters killed in Sudan has risen to 24 since demonstrations began last month initially because of the Sudanese government increasing the cost of fuel and bread.

Protesters now call for President Omar al-Bashir to step down.

Mona Ibrahim, a member of the Sudanese community who is currently living and studying in Oxford, said: “We have to stand up against this because if we don’t, nobody will. It is the responsibility of the international community to do something now. We have been under this rule for 30 years and enough is enough.”
