ORGANISERS of a new Christmas festival in Witney are already planning the 2019 event following a 'spectacular' first year.

Witney Wonderland finished on Saturday, bringing to an end five weeks of attractions at St Mary's Church and Church Green.

The event was organised by Dianne Parkes, founding trustee of charity Joss Searchlight and Toby Wright, area dean of Witney, with proceeds split equally between the charity and the parish.

Residents flocked to the event throughout the week and Mrs Parkes revealed its success surpassed her wildest dreams.

She said: "People haven't just asked us to do it again - they're imploring us to do it again.

"Our only sadness was that we had to turn some people away because we couldn't fit everyone in the church."

Mrs Parkes could not confirm the exact amount raised by Witney Wonderland, but said the event made a 'healthy four-figure profit'.

Witney resident Judy Brookes was the lucky recipient of the top prize in the raffle, winning £3,000 worth of holiday vouchers from tour operator Mark Warner.

She has previously helped raise funds for a new roof at St Mary's Church.
