AN ARTIST whose painting famously captured Oxford High Street will be the subject of a special exhibition at Blenheim Palace.
In 2015 the Ashmolean Museum launched an £860,000 fundraising campaign to keep JMW Turner’s picture at the museum and 12 replicas went on display around the city to boost the donations.
Now the palace in Woodstock is to host an exhibition, The Art of Perspective: JMW Turner’s early architectural paintings and engravings, from February 16 to April 22.
A spokeswoman said: “Visitors will be able to discover the largest collection of Turner Paintings ever to visit Oxfordshire.
“Works in the collection include Untitled, a view of Oxford from Headington Hill, various lecture diagrams and many more of Turner’s famous artworks.
“Turner painted Blenheim, Oxfordshire in 1833, the aspect depicting the Finest View in England in his Picturesque Views in England and Wales series. Visitors will be able to see a print of this iconic image at Blenheim Palace.”

The paintings will be exhibited in the state rooms and set amongst the collections of the palace.
Paintings for the exhibition will be provided on loan from the Tate, the Ashmolean Museum and Oxford University.
