A BURGLAR stole from a Covered Market shop after breaking through its shutters and shattering the windows. 

The smash-and-grab raid resulted in two rings being stolen from a jewellery store in the historic Oxford shopping arcade. 

The thief used a sign from a nearby business to smash the glass at about 7pm on Tuesday, December 4.

Thames Valley Police issued CCTV images today, stating that the man pictured could have 'vital information' about the burglary.

Investigating officer PC Telesfora Rosec, based at Cowley police station, said: "We are appealing to anyone who may recognise the person in this CCTV image to get in touch, as we believe they may have vital information regarding this incident.

"If you recognise the person in this image, or you are the person, please make contact with us to help with our investigation."

Police did not confirm how the burglar gained entry to the market itself, which usually closes at 5.30pm on weekdays.
