THE future of monthly dance sessions for children and their parents has been secured, thanks to lottery funding.

Disco Dadz is a monthly dance session for parents, and their children aged 11 and under.

Now, the scheme’s future is guaranteed following a grant of almost £10,000 from The Big Lottery Awards for All, meaning the project will continue throughout 2019.

Additionally Dancin’ Oxford, which is backed by the city council and Arts Council England, has contributed £1,000 towards the scheme.

The funding will allow the project to develop over the next year, making it more accessible to children and parents with disabilities. It will also pay for two Community Ambassadors to encourage more families to take part.

Disco Dadz sessions run on Saturdays through the year at both the Ark-T Centre in Crowell Road and at Rose Hill Community Centre. The initiative is part of the Dancin’ Oxford Dance Festival programme.

Mary Clarkson, board member for culture and city centre, said: “The news that we have received this funding from the The Big Lottery is a welcome boost for this excellent initiative. I’d like to encourage anyone who hasn’t tried a Disco Dadz session yet to give it a go. It’s becoming increasingly popular.”
