A MAN has been charged with smashing the windows of an Oxford pub on Boxing Day.

Jericho’s Old Bookbinders has been closed and its windows boarded up following an incident hours after Christmas Day, but is set to reopen tonight (Friday).

Mark Cordell, aged 55, of Canal Street, Oxford, has been charged with criminal damage over the incident.

Landlord Josh Mullett-Sadones said all the popular Victor Street pub’s ground floor windows were smashed at about 1.30am on Boxing Day morning.

Mr Mullett-Sadones said he confronted a man armed with a baseball bat and that all 24 ground floor panes were shattered.

He added he believed the criminal damage is linked to an incident at the pub three days earlier on December 23.

He praised locals for rallying round to help the pub in the days following the damage.

The landlord said: “The support from the local community and our friends and neighbours has been overwhelming.

“We are not going to let it get us down.”

Police confirmed they were called at 1.35am on Wednesday.

Cordell is on bail to Oxford Magistrates’ Court until January 11.
