BURGLARS broke into Starbucks on the A34 and tried to prise open a safe with an angle grinder.

Thames Valley Police has issued a CCTV appeal today following the attempted theft, which happened at the roadside Weston-on-the-Green branch.

The coffee shop, located just off the northbound carriageway, was targeted in the early hours of Tuesday, December 18.

Footage shows three people scurry past the coffee shop's counter in a crouched stance, clutching tools and wearing hoods or hats.

Police said the burglary happened between 3.40am and 4.15am, stating that 'offenders attempted to steal the safe using an angle grinder and crow bar'.

Their attempt fell flat, however, and the would-be thieves failed to force the safe open.

Investigating officer PC Christian Meichsner, based at Bicester police station, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area at around the time of the offence or who saw anything which may assist our investigation."

Police did not state how the burglars managed to get inside.
