Police cordoned off a city centre street yesterday because a woman alleged that she was raped on Christmas Day, the force have said.
A police car and what appeared to be an officer in a white suit taking photos of a tent were seen in Brasenose Lane yesterday.
Now police say that the cordon was in connection with an arrest on suspicion of rape. 'No further action' has been taken against the arrested man.
Last night the investigation was ongoing, with officers remaining on the scene, but it is unclear if there have been further developments this morning.
Thames Valley Police spokesman David Marsh said: "A woman in her twenties reported that she was raped on Tuesday in the area.
"A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape yesterday but no further action was taken against him."
Mr Marsh continued: "The scene watch began just after 1am on December 27. I cannot tell exactly when the cordon was lifted but I can see that officers left the scene at around 5.25pm on the same day."
