A MAN who assaulted police officers on two separate occasions has been jailed for assault, theft and sexual assault.

Darren Evans, 42, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six and a half months in prison after a spate of incidents in October and November.

The offences all took place in Bicester and Banbury, starting when Evans stole alcohol and groceries from a store in Bicester on October 9.

On October 25, he broke a criminal behaviour order after entering a pub in Bicester from which he was prohibited.

Six days later, Evans assaulted a woman and once again stole alcohol and groceries from a store, also in Bicester.

He committed a string of offences on November 7, including assaulting a police sergeant and a police constable in the execution of duty, causing a police constable harassment, alarm or distress, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, thereby causing that person or another harassment, alarm or distress.

Evans also inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl over her clothes.

On November 8, a police constable was assaulted in the execution of duty in Banbury.

Evans used language of a homophobic nature towards one of the officers, while one officer sustained a hand injury in one of the incidents.

He pleaded guilty to eight charges and was found guilty of breaching a criminal behaviour order at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on October 25.

Evans was sentenced at the same court on Wednesday following a Thames Valley Police investigation.
