FIFTY school pupils battled it out in an business competition – with the winners’ environmentally-friendly product going on sale at Westgate Oxford.

Pupils from Oxford Spires Academy were crowned the winners of the Made in Oxford campaign by a panel of expert judges, and the team will now sell their reusable aluminium water bottles at Westgate from 10am today.

A total of 50 students from four schools – Cheney School, The Oxford Academy, Oxford Spires Academy and St Gregory’s – took part in this year’s project, which challenged participants to design logos for reusable water bottles and create an accompanying social media campaign and sales pitch.

Westgate general manager Brendan Hattam said: "We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and it’s been great to see these bright young business stars show such a keen interest in sustainability and single-use plastic consumption.

"The quality of entries was fantastic and we’d like to congratulate everyone who took part."

The Made in Oxford campaign, organised by Westgate Oxford owners Landsec, aims to increase diversity in the retail and property industries.

The reusable water bottles will be on sale at the Westgate from 10am on Tuesday, December 18.
