ORGANISERS have announced today's festive bonfire and stories at the children's allotment in East Oxford has been called off due to the wet weather.

The group was due to be telling stories around a bonfire at their site in Cricket Road, from 2pm to 5pm to celebrate a successful first year.

A notice on the Facebook group event said: "Due to forecast of heavy rain and 30mph gusts we are sorry that we will have to change ours plans for the Bonfire Social today.

"We don't want people to get wet and cold!"

The group will instead be having a festive drink and chat at the Jolly Postboys pub from 2pm, children welcome.

Organisers have said they plan to reschedule the bonfire and story-telling in the new year.

All the funds raised were due to go towards the children's allotment, which was founded at the end of 2017 to help local families stay active and learn about healthy eating.
