AFTER a 22-year absence, the Royal British Legion proudly marched into Wallingford in May 1988.
Some 300 members and nearly 50 standards of branches from Berkshire and Oxfordshire joined the revived Wallingford branch and its new standard for a dedication parade and service.
The parade was headed by the Legion's Bodicote Youth Band and included guest visits from then-Wallingford mayor John Wilder and group captain and RAF Benson station commander Philip Pinney.
Derek Knowles, national vice president of the Royal British Legion also turned out for the celebration event to mark the launch of the new branch.
Wallingford branch chairman Major Bob Russell said at the event: "It was an absolutely marvellous occasion. It couldn't have gone better."
The new branch held its inaugural meeting in July the previous year and at the time the picture was taken had a membership of some 90 people.
