PUBS in Abingdon went head-to-head in a tug-of-war competition for a charity fun day in 1987.
The Black Swan, on Bath Street, hosted the event in May that year to raise money for Abingdon Hospital and local charities.
Ten teams turned out in the competition, with this photo showing the Blue Boars, led by Paul Marland.
As activities stretched down the street, live bands Flex and Nevada captured the atmosphere by playing music from the back of a lorry.
The day was organised by Tony and Sandy Stevens, with the former sportingly presenting himself for a drenching in the stocks as revellers threw wet sponges.
