A PREGNANT mother died after being wrongly labelled as needing a 'lower category response' by NHS service 111.

An inquest at Oxford Coroner's Court heard on Wednesday how Dominica Pusca, of Berrick Salome near Wallingford, was about eight or nine weeks pregnant when she complained of serious abdominal pains while at home.

Her husband called the NHS service 111 when it happened on February 24 but the inquest heard how the call was 'incorrectly triaged' as requiring a lower category response.

This delayed the emergency response from South Central Ambulance Service.

The inquest heard how the 31-year-old seamstress soon became unresponsive and 999 was called an hour after the first call to 111.

It transpired that Mrs Pusca had suffered a cardiac arrest in that time and despite the best efforts of paramedics who arrived 15minutes after the 999 call was made she was pronounced dead at 12.35pm.

The inquest was held into the pregnant mother's death by Oxfordshire senior coroner Darren Salter on Wednesday, December 5.

It was previously opened on Wednesday, July 11.

He recorded a narrative conclusion and the medical cause of death was recorded as ruptured tubal ectopic pregnancy - a rupture of the fallopian tube causing internal bleeding in the abdomen.
