THE FESTIVE season has officially begun in Woodstock after a bumper weekend of Christmas celebrations.

TV historian and local resident Nina Ramirez switched on the town’s Christmas lights at A Night of a Thousand Candles on Saturday, signalling the start of Christmas.

Flanked by shepherds, kings and a camel, Ms Ramirez did the honours following the first ever Woodstock Festive Fayre on Friday and Saturday.

Organised by Wake Up To Woodstock, which aims to showcase the town’s attractions and events, the fayre began on Friday evening, before 36 stallholders packed into St Mary Magdalene Church the next day.

The festivities continued throughout Saturday, with live entertainment, carol singing and a lantern parade by local children.

Co-organiser Suzanne Turnbull said: “For our first event, we couldn’t be more pleased.

“Many of our delighted stallholders had a fabulous day’s trading.”
