TRADING Standards has issued a public safety warning after dangerous, part-worn tyres were found to be on sale in Bicester.

Drivers who bought tyres from Bicester Tyres Ltd are being urged to ‘check their wheels’ after the discovery by Oxfordshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service.

The business has since left its premises in Buckingham Road, according to the council, with the firm taking with them the unsafe tyres.

Officers are now keen to track down the dangerous car parts.

Jody Kerman, from Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards, said: “Driver safety is paramount.

“We encourage everyone to check carefully any newly purchased part worn tyres, particularly if they were bought from Bicester Tyres Ltd.

“We’re warning residents and businesses to only buy tyres from trusted providers and to report any suspicious advertisements or cold-call sales attempts regarding part worn tyres.”

The council’s trading standards team, who were acting on a tip off, found the used tyres of various makes and sizes which failed to meet the relevant legal requirements.

Oxford Mail:

The council said the company, which had been based at the Gulf Service Station, had moved on after unsuccessful attempts by the Trading Standards team to improve the safety issue.

If anyone has information about the location of the tyres, they should contact Trading Standards on 0345 404 0506.
