A ROAD outside Oxford’s Westgate Centre was partially blocked after a lorry got stuck.

An Aston Transport lorry got wedged on a bollard for several hours yesterday, after trying to turn into the centre’s deliveries entrance in Norfolk Street.

The transport company has since called for clearer signage to make it clear that lorries can only enter from the right.

The West Midlands-based company’s director Scott Aston said: “We try to deliver on time and professionally wherever we go.

“This wasn’t a site we knew and, as it turned out, it’s very tight if you are turning in from the left."

Westgate has clarified that there is already such signage in place, however.

A spokesperson said there is already a 'no left turn' sign which is 'clearly placed at the deliveries entrance'.

Mr Aston stressed he had not visited the site himself but had spoken to the driver.

He added that he understood no damage had been done, and apologised to passersby for any delays caused.

He said the driver had returned to Westgate today, and entered the car park without issue by accessing from the right.

But he said the manoeuvre to turn around once inside was also a struggle, and said there should be more room to allow lorries to turn.

A passerby who spotted the lorry said he noticed it at about 10.30am, and it was still stuck when he passed again at about 3pm.
