A BOOK written as though the battles and conflict happening in the Middle East were instead in Oxfordshire has been published.

The novel, called 'Through Adversity', is set in Faringdon and surrounding villages and culminates in Oxford.

The story imagines that the conflicts happening in other parts of the world are actually occurring in the county.

The author, Nathaniel Reade, said he hoped it would 'make suffering easier to understand'.

He said: "It is my sincere hope that this book will increase peoples sympathy for refugees and asylum seekers, and remind people that it is only by good fortune that we live in a safe and secure country."

He added: "I hope that this book will go some way towards reminding people about the need to treat those less fortunate than ourselves with compassion."

The book is sold Amazon for £8.99
