TRAFFIC has cleared after a crash between a motorbike and a car on Botley Road earlier today.

The collision happened at about 3.30pm near the entrance to Osney Court and the biker was due to be taken to hospital by ambulance.

A witness who called the Oxford Mail at 4.30pm said they could still see a body on the ground.

Another witness who called shortly after the accident said he could see vehicle parts strewn on the grass verge.

He said there were two fire engines and a police car on the scene and Botley Road traffic had been reduced to one lane, which was causing delays of at least ten minutes.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "We received an emergency 999 call at 15:31 from a member of the public reporting a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Botley Road.

"From the information received about the injuries to the rider, it has been triaged as a Category 3 emergency (an ambulance response within two hours) and we are currently waiting for the next available ambulance to be sent."

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it had deployed two fire engines from Rewley Road fire station and the specialist rescue tender from Kidlington.

It said firefighters were administering first aid at the scene and both vehicles had been made safe.
