SEX shop protesters in February, 1982 claimed they were drenched with water when they set up a picket outside the Private Shop in Oxford.

About 30 women from Women Against Violence Against Women picketed outside the Cowley Road sex shop for three hours as part of a national day of action against pornography.

Inside the shop, manager Bob Jackson claimed the picket had cut trade to just six customers.

He said: "It certainly does affect business. On a normal Saturday we have maybe 200 people come in."

One of the women said when they arrived staff poured water on protesters from an upstairs window, though Mr Jackson denied any knowledge of it.
