JURORS have begun their deliberations in the trial of a doctor accused of sexually assaulting two patients - one in Oxford and another in Cambridge.

Anandagopal Srinivasan, of Sandfield Road, Oxford, denies assault by penetration on a patient at the John Radcliffe Hospital as well as sexual assault of a woman at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Prosecutors at Oxford Crown Court allege that the 27-year old exposed one woman’s breasts at the Cambridge hospital in 2014 before performing a sex act on another female patient at the Oxford site in October 2016.

Jurors were told that in Oxford the alleged victim had gone to A&E after throwing up blood.

The alleged victim took to the witness box during the trial last week and described to jurors how the incident had made her feel 'uncomfortable and dirty'.

She told the court: "I was just thinking that this might be the way [for] an examination. [My friend] was embarrassed and she turned her back to us.

"He was looking in my eyes. It made me feel uncomfortable."

Srinivasan also gave evidence during this trial and took to the witness box to profess his innocence.

He told jurors that he had only performed typical medical examinations on both of the women and speaking of the Oxford allegation he said that although he had been trained to perform a vaginal examination it would normally fall to a senior doctor to complete.

Jurors have since been given closing speeches from both prosecution and defence barrister and presiding Judge Maria Lamb has summarised the case for them to consider.

Jurors were sent out to begin their deliberations yesterday afternoon.
