VANDALS smashed football fans' car windows during Oxford United's two most recent home matches.

At least five cars parked on Grenoble Road had their side windows broken during the U's last two games at the Kassam Stadium, against Shrewsbury Town on October 27 and Plymouth Argyle on October 13.

One car also had its rear window smashed and the parcel shelf 'pushed up', according to one fan.

Regular match-goer Steve Smith, from Bicester, travels to games with three other supporters and spotted the smashed windows after last month's fixtures.

Mr Smith has parked on Grenoble Road during home matches for several years and had not noticed any vandalism before, but admitted he might reconsider driving if the issue continued.

He said: “We’re thinking about what we’re going to - we might take the bus if it got really bad.

“In most cases we walked past the cars before anyone had got there, so we can only guess their reactions."

Fans have parked along the side of Grenoble Road since the stadium opened in 2001, with spaces running between the roundabouts at Guelder Road and Watlington Road.

Mr Smith saw two damaged cars after the 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury, which saw United celebrate their 125th anniversary.

The other three vehicles were targeted during the 2-0 win over Plymouth a fortnight earlier and the U's fan was not confident the problem could be stamped out.

He said: "I don’t know what the club can do about it as it’s not in their car park.

“Most people park there for two or three hours so how do you monitor that.

“Grenoble Road is one of the very few roads overlooked by properties so vandals clearly don’t care about being seen."

In April 2012, police reported eight incidents of damage to cars and two thefts around the stadium in just three months.

Supporters on United fans forum, Yellows Forum, also noticed the vandalism, with one urging police to act during subsequent matches.

He said: "I would like to think the police will now drive up and down a couple of times at least as a deterrent the next few home games."

The club's next home game is an FA Cup first round tie against Forest Green Rovers next Saturday.
