A SOCIETY which has analysed UFO sightings across the UK claims there have been seven sightings in Oxfordshire in the past decade - with one as recent as July.

As superstitions rise for Halloween, a report has been compiled detailing the unexplained events in the county since 2008.

Here are a selection of accounts and videos from the alleged incidents, compiled by Mecca Bingo, using documents by the British Earth and Aerial Mysteries Society (BEAMS).

The most recent sighting was near Banbury, on July 21 this year.

A witness account reads: "I was amazed at what I was looking at. This object was very big given the altitude and distance it appeared to be and was cigar shaped and with a light that seemed to move along its lateral axis.

"I got my phone camera on it and watched it for a good 5 minutes, flashing lights and rotating on its own central axis which had the appearance of it changing its shape.

"I quickly ascertained that this was no Balloon as it remained pretty much stationary while the clouds were moving to the South."

The account, anonymously listed on the BEAMS website, claims there are at least six witnesses.

It continues: "After filming for a few minutes I thought I may have time to get my tripod. At that point, the craft accelerated upwards until it was out of sight and very unfortunately not on film. The best bits I never got to record."

Founded in 1991, BEAMS says it is 'a team of active reporters and field investigators who factually gather, study and disseminate evidence relating to Earth Mysteries'.

Their website tells of another incident, over Blackbird Leys, in May 2011.

Three witnesses apparently saw a cyclindrical shape at around 10.30pm.

One said: "I was standing out in my back garden when some triangular lights flew into view and hovered approx 400 to 500 ft above the house, moving slowly with a humming sound.

"Then the formation changed shape to a long cylinder, with one green light at the front and two red lights at the back... before flying slowly away to the South of Oxford."

Another alleged sighting took place in Abingdon in October 2008.

This one is believed to be extremely similar to another caught on camera in 1989.

According to BEAMS, the witness account claimed that a 'red and black grenade shaped object' was seen flying over rooftops along Abingdon High Street.

It apparently had no engine noise, or lighting, despite flying at nearly 7pm.

The account reads: "This thing was not a light aircraft but definitely 3D grenade shape.

"The object seemed to be suspended in mid air without any means of support; it was not floating or gliding... [it] was under power and flying in a constant straight line, flying through sky like an upright egg, not horizontal like a cigar.

"The object disappeared over the High St and was no longer in the sky where it should have been; there was no cloud cover; it was no larger than two new mini cars side by side."

Antony Smith, Marketing Consultant of Mecca Bingo said: “Its certainly spooky to see that 7 UFO sightings have been spotted over Oxfordshire.

"As millions of people go trick or treating this year, they might want to take a minute to look up at the night sky, as you never know what you might see.”

The other four sightings are listed as follows:

  • M40 northbound near the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border, on February 22, 2016.
  • At high altitude over Abingdon, on August 7, 2016.
  • Near Deddington, Oxford, on April 11, 2017.
  • Over Oxford on June 9, 2017.
