A MILE-long stretch of the A40 in West Oxfordshire has reopened following a crash.

Police were called out after the collision on the Witney-bound carriageway near Burford at about 5.30pm this evening, which affected traffic in both directions.

UPDATE: Drivers have to be cut free from cars after head-on crash

Road closures going on at the R/A at the end of the dual carriageway. Please stay in your vehicle and be prepared to let emergency vehicles through.

One driver who passed the scene said there had been a 'nasty head-on collision between two cars'.

Traffic was severe at either side but had cleared by 8.30pm, though the road remained closed for some time after.

The closure stretched from the large roundabout connecting the A40 with the B4047 Burford Road, to the turn-off for Swinbrook.
