A MACHETE was discovered by police during a search of an Oxford home.

The weapon was seized by officers following a drugs-related arrest in the city, as part of a joint operation between the new Oxford Public Spaces Drugs Taskforce and the Jericho, Abingdon Road and West Oxford neighbourhood police team.

Thames Valley Police's Oxford team tweeted about the discovery last night, but did not specify when or where the arrest was made nor where the machete was found.

After making a drugs-related arrest, police usually send officers to search properties related to the suspect.

The force has been asked for more details.

The joint taskforce launched in late summer in a bid to tackle drug use in public places, and will initially focus on three key areas - South Park, Grandpont and Meadow Lane.
