THE deadline for a competition to find a budding young motoring writer is just over a month away.

The winner will get free travel worth £1,000, a ride in an Aston Martin and the use of a new Audi for their family for a week.

All these prizes are offered by the Midland Group of Motoring Writers in memory of one of their members, Phil Llewellin, who was one of Britain's most respected motoring writers.

The Phil Llewellin Award is aimed at budding motoring writers, aged up to 16. To enter, write a story of about 500 words on my ideal green holiday'.

Then email your entry, with full name, date of birth and home address, to brian_vertigen@tiscali.co.uk. Closing date is October 31, 2007. A trophy and the prize package will be presented to the winner in the autumn.

You can find the first winner's entry at www.mgmw.co.uk - go to the news section - and the full details for the 2007 award are also on the site.

Entrants must be aged 16 or under on October 31, 2007. A panel of judges will be appointed by the MGMW and its decision is final.

There is one prize which will take the form of the £1,000 in travel vouchers, a week's use of an Audi car for the winner's family, (provided driving licence is acceptable), a tour of the Aston Martin factory and a ride in one of the firm's latest models.

Entrants must live or attend school in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire as far south/south-east as a line drawn between Oxford, Thame, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Staffordshire (as far north as Stoke-on-Trent), Hereford and Worcester, Shropshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Cambridgeshire.
