The White Horse at Uffington is one of the sites featured in Sacred Places: Sites of Spirituality & Faith (Carlton, £20), by Oxfordshire artist Rebecca Hind.
Rebecca was artist to the Sacred Land Project, a scheme to conserve Britain's sacred sites. This book, however, covers the whole world, from the temples and prayer wheels of Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan to the natural beauty of Ayers Rock in Australia. It consists mainly of photographs, with an explanation of the significance of some of the sites to each of the major world religions. Rebecca, who teaches at the Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford and lives in Dorchester, has created an uplifting blend of art, history, travel and religion.
