TALENTED youngsters from Oxford have been chosen to be part of the England team in the street dancing world championships.

The nine dancers from Blackbird Leys will take their best moves to Germany in October where 3,000 dancers from 34 countries will be going for gold.

The eight girls and one boy from Oxford are among the 200-strong England team, which was chosen from thousands of dancers in 17 nationwide competitions.

Dance teacher Kelly Chandler set up KCs School of Dance two years ago and coaches the youngsters for five hours each week.

She said: "They are so excited and extremely nervous because they do not know what to expect and some of them have not been abroad before.

"I just want them to enjoy themselves and the experience."

Their routines will include bodybopping and break dancing to hip hop music in group, pair and solo categories.

Elise Claire, of Field Avenue, Blackbird Leys, is one of the youngsters hoping for success at the competition.

Last year, she ranked 41 in the world and has already featured in a music video for an up-and-coming hip hop artist.

This year, she hopes to do even better.

The 12-year-old, who would like to become a professional backing dancer, said: "I'm really excited and a bit nervous but when you've done it once, the nerves just go.

"It is really good because I am going with all my friends this time."

Ms Chandler, 32, said the ratio of her students competing at the championships compared with other schools was massive.

She said: "Due to the school's high standards, I have been chosen to be the England representative at this year's competition, which means I will be responsible for all 200 dancers from across the country.

"Dancing brings social skills out in many children and makes such a big difference to many of them. They also get a lot of enjoyment out of it, as well as fitness, stamina and flexibility."
