Supermarket chain Asda is set to axe 2,500 jobs next year, according to reports.
The chain is currently in the process of a proposed mergerwith Sainsbury's but had insisted earlier this year that no stores would close as a result.
It is not yet known where the at risk jobs are based.
When asked about the potential job losses, a spokesman told Press Association: “In a competitive retail market ... we must always look at how we can work more quickly and efficiently for them (customers) – and inevitably, that means we need to consider changing the roles we need our colleagues to do or the hours needed in particular parts of our stores.”
There are currently Asda stores in Wheatley, Carterton and Didcot. There is also an Asda Living at Templar Shopping Park
