I was interested to read the story regarding the appalling postal service at Wallingford (Oxford Mail, September 14).

But I am afraid that this is the shape of things to come across the county.

Royal Mail management is in the process of decimating a once great postal service, by again making unnecessary job cuts.

At the moment, all the mail that comes into the Mail Centre in Cowley, once sorted, is sent out to delivery offices at various times throughout the night.

This means that when the delivery office staff arrive at 5am, all the mail is there waiting for them.

However, with the new wave of changes, the majority of the mail will not be sent to delivery offices until after 7am.

Hence your delivery will probably not reach your door until midday or later, if at all.

Royal Mail states that the reason for this delay is because of the 56mph speed limit on its vehicles, which comes into effect in January.

Considering that most of the speed limits on Oxfordshire's roads are 30-50mph, I can't see how they can justify this - more spin.

This is one of the reasons that we have been taking industrial action - to protect the customer and the service - and is why we need the public's support.

The more pressure the public puts on the Government, the more chance you have of saving it.

After all, it is one of the few remaining public services.
