MAJOR plans for a sprawling 1,500-home development will be put to councillors tonight for approval.

A revised plan of the proposed Wretchwick Green development could see up to 1,500 homes built on the south east edge of Bicester, plus office space, a primary school and 'local centre'.

It is the third time Wates Development and Redrow Homes have put forward the plans after previously delaying a decision to make revisions.

It followed concerns raised by residents and councillors about environmental fears and building heights.

When resubmitting the plans in June the applicants said there had been 'significant' changes made to the masterplan including increased green space to more than half the site.

A spokesman for developers said: "We believe that the changes demonstrate how seriously Redrow and Wates Developments take the consultation process and how invested we are in creating an exemplary development which local people will be proud of for years to come."

The plans were first submitted to Cherwell District Council in summer 2016 but after local consultation were revised.

They were also brought forward in April 2017 but Environment Agency concerns about plans to raise land levels meant more revisions were made.

Current plans for the site include up to 1,500 homes, employment space to create up to 868 jobs, a primary school, plus a local centre including community hall, shops, nursery, 90-bed care home and space for a doctors, vets or dentist.

Bicester Town Council has raised objections to the plans over employment plans, as well as concerns for a 'fragmented sports provision'.

Nearby Ambrosden parish council has also raised objections over the heights of buildings and impact on Wretchwick Cottages along the A41 which would be surrounded by the site.

The Environment Agency and Highways England have raised no objections.

A decision is expected tonight at the 4pm council planning meeting at Bodicote House.

The recommendation says 'delegate to officers to grant permission subject to conditions, no objection from highways in respect of revised modelling and s106 agreement to secure infrastructure'. For plans search 16/01268/OUT on cherwell.gov.uk
