A PECULIAR site greeted shoppers in Summertown, Oxford, in 1979 as fundraisers took to a bicycle made for three.

The servicemen from RAF Cranwell in Nottinghamshire bowled past the city boundaries on the eccentric contraption for charity.

They were passing through on their way to London on a sponsored cycle ride to raise money for Oxford's 'Brazilian brick-making machine' project.

As such, the team routed through Oxford to visit the charity's headquarters.

They were made up of a team of nine who took it in turns to ride and it was hoped would raise £500 for the cause.

The bicycle was actually one which The Goodies used in their comedy series shown in the 1970s and early 1980s.
