MORE than 26,000 people have visited the Stella Vine show at Modern Art Oxford, making it one of their most popular exhibitions to date.

The exhibition, which opened at the Pembroke Street gallery on July 17, features Ms Vine's most controversial works, including a previously unseen painting of the Paris car crash in which Princess Diana died, and her life as a young child and teenager.

Other paintings show images of celebrities such as football manager José Mourinho and rock singer Pete Doherty.

Tonight, from 7pm to 10.30pm singers Katiejane Garside and Gina Birch will headline at the gallery's LATE event.

Both singers are friends of Stella Vine and will perform among her paintings.

Andrew Nairne, director of Modern Art Oxford, said: "Stella Vine has been one of our most successful exhibitions this year, with a phenomenal response from visitors.

"If you haven't seen it already, come along and enjoy an exclusive tour of the exhibition at the LATE event, before the exhibition closes on Sunday.

"We have received some very enthusiastic comments."

Among them were:

  • "Wonderful! Stella Vine captures the distance between what is false, escapist, pretentious and what is true and real.'
  • "I think the paintings are wonderful. Especially Spiderman on prozac! It made my day!'
  • "Many congratulations Stella, I have been a fan for some time, I love your work. Best wishes, Una Stubbs."
