A ROMANTIC banana, Oxford sporting glory and Winnie the Pooh characters were among the impressive array of places Oxford Mail Camera Club found ‘happiness’ this week.

Many members submitted images of animals, from contented cats to beaming pigs we loved the variety and vitality seen in many of these snaps.

One of our favourites was Eric Trafford’s image of Jake the dog looking as though he is flying as he runs across grass. We love the sense of movement as the delighted dog sprints with his ears back and mouth open.

We also enjoyed the slightly alarming ‘grin’ on the face of an ostrich which was captured by Allen Dannfald.

A pair of horse-related pictures we liked, meanwhile, were Andy Hayes’ image of people riding the carousel at Abingdon’s historic Michaelmas Fair, which took over the town this week, and Louise Jones’ picture of herself riding the real thing.

We love the contrast between the wide smile on the face of the young girl in Mr Hayes’ shot and the more personal and intimate angle of Ms Jones’ photograph.

People featured heavily this week with stand outs including a graduating Oxford University student caught in the act of jumping for joy by Darrell Godliman and a mother and baby wrapped up in each other by Jamiee Dixon.

Both images capture the emotion of the subjects, from unrestrained elation in the student to the quieter pleasure in the parent and child.

We also loved Barry Gibbs snap of the statue of comedian Eric Morecambe, whose double act with Ernie Wise brought happiness to millions.

A more unusual picture of happiness was a romantic gesture by Lesley Adams’ husband. Sharing an image of the message he wrote on the piece of fruit she wrote her definition of happiness was: “Coming down in the morning to find that your husband has written a message on your lunchtime banana after being married for 34 months.”

Next week from solo readers to vast libraries we want to see members' best books-themed photographs
