OXFORD'S iconic spires gained an autumnal golden glow on the warmest October day since 2011.
Coats and hats were momentarily displaced by short sleeves and sunglasses yesterday, as temperatures in the city reached an unseasonably mild 23 degrees Celsius.
Residents made the most of it in pub gardens and parks, but the sunny spell was short-lived - overcast weather is forecast for the rest of the week.
The Met Office said Northolt in London reached a top temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius, which is the warmest October recording since 2011.
