AN Evening for Bill Heine will be held in Jericho tomorrow to raise funds for raise for palliative care charity, Sobell House.

The fundraiser will celebrate the work of the Oxford Mail columnist and former BBC Radio Oxford presenter who is currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Leukemia last year.

The event will hear from guest speakers including Sir Richard Peto, one of the key people involved in identifying the link between smoking and cancer, who will be talking about his own illness.

The fundraiser will also mark the publication of Mr Heine’s new book ‘Cancer - Living Behind Enemy Lines Without a Map’,published by Bite Sized Books, which chronicles his journey since diagnosis.

Copies will be available for sale.

Earlier this year 73-year-old Mr Heine was presented with a Special Certificate of Merit by Oxford City Council becoming only the fourth person in the council’s history to receive the honour, which celebrates his charity work and broadcasting.

He had spent many years battling the council after installing a 25-foot fibre glass shark in the roof of his Headington home without planning permission.

Mr Heine, however, will unfortunately not be able to attend the evening.

There will be a retiring collection for Sobell House with all funds going to the charity.

An Evening for Bill Heine will be held on Tuesday in the Café at the Community Centre, Canal Street, Jericho from 5.30pm until 6.45, with entry costing £2.
