AN OXFORD MP has been nominated as 'politician of the year' for her work to champion LGBT+ equality.

Layla Moran, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has been shortlisted for the accolade by the online newspaper Pink News.

Ms Moran's work including calling for gender neutral uniforms and for more LGBT-inclusive sex education in schools has led to the recognition.

She said: "Wow, what an honour to even be nominated."

In nominating Ms Moran, the website said: "A new face to the House of Commons, Layla Moran has wasted no time in advocating for equality."

Politicians Lord Hayward, Conor McGinn, Michelle O’Neill, Naomi Long, Penny Mordaunt and Christina McKelvie are also all on the shortlist.

The winner will be revealed on October 17.
