DANCERS sported gem-encrusted headdresses and kaleidoscopic outfits in a school assembly.

Christ Church Cathedral School in Oxford welcomed performers from Cathay Future dance troupe on Wednesday, who treated pupils to an assembly of song and dance.

The Chinese dance group paid a vibrant visit ahead of an event at the Sheldonian Theatre last night, which they also took part in - the UK-China Children’s Festival of Music and Dance

The school's headmaster Richard Murray said: "I have just been to China with our choir and I was so happy to host this wonderful troupe.

"More and more we will see that our country will become closer to China. This performance was a wonderful sign of that closeness."

Cathay Future is based in Tianjin in China and is no stranger to new audiences, having performed in more than 100 countries across the world.

The group's chairman Mr Zhao said: "Our primary schools have a real focus on music and the arts. We focus on singing, dancing, art and English learning."
