A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for the regeneration of an Oxford estate - to the delight of local residents.

Taylor Wimpey plans to demolish 97 outdated Orlit houses and six private dwellings in Rose Hill and replace them with 254 new homes.

The company's proposals will see 141 affordable homes created and another 113 offered up for private sale in Lenthall Road, Nowell Road, Wynbush Road, Desborough Crescent, Thames View Road and Williamson Way.

People living in the Orlit homes will be offered one of the new properties, which will be built from January if Oxford City Council approves the application in October.

Some houses have already been demolished, with families living in temporary accommodation before they move in to their new properties.

Karina Buller, 34, and her mother Christine are living in Lenthall Road while they wait for their new home to be built in Nowell Road. She said: "I'm very happy the application has gone in. It's absolutely brilliant.

"The scheme is the best thing they have ever done."

Taylor Wimpey's plans will be on show to the public between 3pm and 7pm next Tuesday, at the Rose Hill Community Centre, at The Oval.
