A NORTH Oxford care home will hold a free tea dance for older members of their local community.

Green Gates Bupa Care Home, on Hernes Road, Summertown, is supporting 'Silver Sunday' 2018 by holding the dance, for older residents and family and friends, on Sunday, October 7, from 2pm.

Silver Sunday is a national day of free fun and activities celebrating the value of older people across the UK. The event also aims to tackle the loneliness and isolation felt by many older people.

Entertainment will be provided by dancing duo Kirsty and Michael, who will demonstrate ballroom dancing, with afternoon tea and bucks fizz provided.

Wendy Putt, activities co-ordinator at Green Gates, said: “It’s clear that loneliness is a significant issue, particularly for older people. That’s why [we are] keen to support Silver Sunday and[help] tackle social isolation locally. I know our residents are looking forward to welcoming some new faces.”
