OXFORDSHIRE residents have been invited to a host of coffee mornings.

Macmillan Cancer Support are holding the'World’s Biggest Coffee Morning' campaign this month, which sees various events being held for people suffering from cancer - and to fundraise for Macmillan.

The majority of the sessions take place this Friday, with Oxford Playhouse, Islip Medical Practice, Marks and Spencers and a host of other organisations holding events across the county.

At the time of writing, roughly 15 events were due to take place in the Oxford area, with more than 10 in West Oxfordshire, around six near Bicester and three around Abingdon, Didcot and Wantage respectively.

Macmillan’s first ever coffee morning took place in 1990 and since then the nationwide fundraising event has raised more than £200 million for Macmillan.

Robert Mezo, Director of Bluebird Care Oxford, South & West Oxfordshire - who are supporting the initiative - said:

“With so many coffee mornings taking place across the UK this year, we strongly encourage everyone to support their local community by attending an event near them where possible.

"We like to support this campaign each year, raising awareness of Macmillan Cancer Support and the incredible work they do.”

Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes - who are holding an event for Wantage residents at the new Kingsgrove development - added: “We are delighted to be getting involved in Macmillan’s world’s biggest coffee morning this year. These events are a fantastic way to raise money for such a worthy cause, as well as a great opportunity to get the local community together.

"We’d love to see as many people from the local area coming along to pop a few pounds into the tin.”
