POLITICS students at a West Oxfordshire school have called for the county council to reduce a road's speed limit outside their school.

Pupils at Burford School presented a petition at County Hall signed by staff, parents, students and members of the public, asking for the speed limit on the A40 to be brought down from 40 to 30mph.

Alan Staniforth, the school's business manager, said: "I believe Burford is the only school in the county with such a high speed limit right outside its doors.

"With the steady growth in popularity of the school and the increased traffic that brings, a move to reduce the limit has now become a matter of urgency."

Earlier this month, the school also received the ‘Innovation in School Music’ Award at the annual Music Hub Gala Awards hosted by Oxfordshire County Music Service.

The award recognised an initiative with local primary schools at Burford's Institute of Music, where pupils can access music tuition and an ensemble after school.
