A MUSIC academy kicked off its final week in its spiritual home with a bang last night.

MuzoAkademy, which teaches music to almost 150 people of all ages, is putting on three nights of live music this week before it moves out of The Rock Barn on Thursday.

The building, in Witney Market Square, will be demolished and replaced with six flats after a planning application was approved earlier this month.

The charity is refusing to go down quietly, with the first of three free gigs - dubbed the 'Last Chance Saloon' - attracting dozens of people.

Jon Berry, chairman of the 7 C's foundation, which runs MuzoAkademy, said: “Our final week in the Rock Barn is going to be a festival for our community and a chance to bid farewell in style.”

Last night's gig celebrated the work of MuzoAkademy, with several of the charity's bands past and present performing live, along with local DJs.

The event, organised in partnership with Witney Music Festival, raised almost £1,000 through donations to the #savetherockbarn campaign.

Tonight sees Hip Hop artists take over, with a live band, open mic cypher and beat boxing featuring on the bill.

Tomorrow's gig, 'The Final Showdown', includes sets from several top local bands, such as New Depth and Twisted State of Mind.

MuzoAkademy began moving out of the building last week and has been forced to cancel all sessions since Friday.

The academy hopes sessions will start again this Friday in a temporary home.
